National Salaries Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) has promised to provide information on remuneration, pay policies and guidelines for the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) to ease  its investigation, prosecution and settlements.

Chairman of  NSIWC, Ekpo Nta, stated this at the inauguration of the new team of  ACTU of  the commission.

Ekpo Nta  who was represented at the event by the Acting Secretary to the commission, Mr Chiadi Adighiogu noted that as an institution saddled with the critical responsibility of advising the government on salaries, incomes and productivity and wages matters, the commission recognises that the work has far reaching implications for national growth, fairness and equity.

The chairman said that the commission looks forward to more collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related  Offences Commission (ICPC) in areas of capacity building, workshops and seminars.

A statement from the Head of Press and Protocol, Emma Njoku quoted the chairman of the commission as emphasising on the imperative that the commission should conduct its operations with the highest standards of probity, impartiality, and openness.

“In furtherance of the ACTU mandate, the NSIWC ACTU Chapter is hereby authorised to serve as an internal watchdog and bring unethical acts to the attention of the management, aimed at strengthening the system, promoting ethical values, and ensuring that the principles of accountability are upheld at all times” he stated.

The chairman commended ICPC for establishing ACTUs across government institutions.

In a goodwill message, the chairman of ICPC, Dr Musa  Aliyu, said the event signified a critical step in equipping the newly- appointed ACTU members with the necessary foundation to effectively carry out their responsibilities.

The chairman of ICPC who was represented by the Director, System Study and Review Department, Mr. Olusegun Adigun, noted that anti-corruption units have evolved into a government anti-corruption platform and that the units have been functioning as internal mechanisms to identify and address systemic weaknesses while ensuring compliance with ethical standards across MDAs.

‘’Aligned with the commission’s vision to be the focal point for determining and overseeing a productive and contented workforce in Nigeria, serving as the hub for a realistic compensation system in the Nigerian economy, the ACTU will serve as a strategic instrument to support the commission in achieving these objectives through its mandated duties’’ he emphasised.

He highlighted the responsibilities of ACTUs to include, conducting periodic sensitisation and training of staff to foster anti- corruption awareness and adherence to ethical standards; undertaking preliminary investigation into complaints and reports received; monitoring the commission’s budget implementation to ensure fiscal transparency and accountability.

Other responsibilities of the unit, include conducting Corruption Risk Assessments (CRA) to proactively identify potential vulnerabilities and mitigate risks and co-ordinating the deployment of the Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard; amongst other duties.
