From Magnus Eze, Enugu
The National Security Adviser (NSA) and former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has tasked the anti-graft agency to track proceeds of violent crimes, such as kidnapping and terrorism.
This is as the current Chairman, EFCC, Mr. Olu Olukayode, has vowed to crackdown on fraudsters, especially online scammers in the South East.
The NSA, who spoke in Enugu while commissioning the EFCC zonal command complex, yesterday, asked the commission to be in the forefront of sanitising the country, assuring that the present administration will give the agency all the needed support.
Ribadu said his commissioning of the complex brought nostalgic and reflective feelings on his homecoming to the commission.
“Things are changing, my return to Enugu is nostalgic because the Enugu command is one of those established during my time in EFCC and I’m delighted with the transformation in the commission.
“In the past six months we’ve been seeing that change is possible in Nigeria, and more changes will come in 2024. This administration will not compromise in the fight for welfare of the citizens,” he said.
The EFCC boss, in giving danger signal to fraudsters operating in the region, disclosed that the agency is now more equipped to crack on suspects. Olukayode stated that with the new complex and facilities, therein, the command will now crack further on suspected fraudsters in the zone, to ensure they have no space to operate.
He recalled that some months ago, the Enugu command’s office was gutted by fire and noted that the commissioning of the new complex was a triumph over the disaster. He said he has been running the commission in line with President Bola Tinubu’s policy of creating a Nigerian environment where businesses can thrive.
