NRLA set to host Middle East Africa Championship in Lagos

The Nigeria Rugby League Association (NRLA) has officially submitted its bid to host the Middle East Africa (MEA) Championship in Lagos, reinforcing the city’s role in rugby league.

This announcement was made during a visit to the Director General of the Lagos Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, by NRLA Chairman Abiodun Olawale Cole and other members.

The visit also included members of the Nigeria Women’s Rugby League Team, including Captain Blessing Funmilayo Aladeyelu and her teammates, demonstrating the growing talent and excitement around the sport.

The NRLA’s bid for the MEA Championship aims to feature six women’s and four men’s teams, positioning Lagos as Africa’s rugby league hub. Discussions with the Sports Commission included initiatives to enhance rugby development, such as school programmes and a structured national league.
