A physically challenged young man, Okoro Clement Okorie, has not allowed his condition to be a hindrance to realising his aspiration of becoming a medical doctor. So, when brand-new medical doctors filed out for induction on June 6, 2024, at Ebonyi State University (EBSU), he was among those that took the oath.
Okoro attributed his attainment to sheer determination, stressing that without God’s grace and self-determination, it would not have been possible.
At a reception in his honour, Okoro advised all to remain focused towards their respective endeavours: “One is prone to encounter curves called failure, loopholes called confusion, speed breakers called friends, red light known as enemies and caution light called family.
“But, if the person has a spare called determination, an engine known as perseverance, assurance called faith and the driver called knowledge, the person is liable to achieve success.”
According to him, going by human calculation concerning his physical disability, he would not have become a medical doctor.
Chairman on the occasion, Sir Chijioke Ikwuagwu, commended the inductee for being courageous in the pursuit of his career and advised other young people to toe the young doctor’s path, no matter the condition they may find themselves in: “There is nothing like determination and what God has destined to happen, thus, the man is a source of encouragement to the younger generation in whatever condition they may find themselves because his testimony is so touching.
“His case shows that there is ability in disability and since he has succeeded as a medical doctor, he should be compassionate to others by always being eager to assist the needy.”
A member of the family, Mr. Uzor Okoro, said that their whole family members were out for the celebration of the oath-taking because, initially, they did not see the possibility of the young man’s dream.
He further appealed to other young ones to remain determined and work towards their aspirations to attain the climax of their careers.
A guest, Mr. Emeka Emmanuel Uneke, described the event as one of the miracles of the 21st century, noting Okoro has remained determined in life: “Considering his condition, I have seen the manifestation of the common saying that there’s ability in disability.
“Additionally, the success of Dr. Clement, who defied all odds in life to attain the feat, is a challenge to others and I thank God for the grace upon him.”
Another relative, Mrs. Eunice Okoro said: “His condition during his childhood was a source of worry to our family but today, we have seen every reason to celebrate his success and I am praying God to lift him beyond measure.”
