From Aniekan Aniekan, Calabar
The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps Cross River State, Istifanus Ibrahim, has disclosed that nobody is immune from traffic regulations.
The Sector Commander also disclosed that the FRSC does not manufacture traffic offences and advised motorists to be be abreast of traffic regulations.
He disclosed this in Calabar during an interview said there are many offences motorists usually commit on the road but feel because they have papers they can bypass traffic regulations.
“The issue is not always about having papers that are intact but obeying traffic regulations.
“It is not vehicle papers that we enforce but enforce traffic rules.
“The biggest challenge we have in the state is that motorists feel because they have their papers intact so they should ignore the rules.
“Others think we manufacture offences but we don’t manufacture offences and there is need to be abreast with the rules as nobody is immune from it.
“If you commit an offence of the use of phone for instance while driving and we see that your vehicle papers are intact and your driver’s license is valid, you will definitely be booked because it’s an offence ” he said.
The Sector Commander said once you obey the rules it will help the Corps offer better service than to emphasise that vehicle papers are intact.
He said where infractions occur, vehicle papers are only collected as collateral in the sense that it will enable the offender come back.
He added that where the papers are not valid, the vehicle will be impounded.
He also said there is no provision in the law that says highly placed people should not be booked.
He also explained that if an offender has the opportunity of reaching out to someone and he begs on your behalf, it is not a right but a privilege.
He advised motorists to always obey the rules to avoid needless crashes on our roads.
