From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri
Activities in Owerri, the Imo State capital, and its environs have been paralysed following the ongoing protest for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Despite the protest led by the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, in Abuja, its effect weighed down on the economic activities in Imo State as businesses and major institutions were closed.
All schools, banks and markets were locked; even the usual hustling and bustling at Douglas, Tetlow, Wetheral and M.C.C. roads was completely halted.
However, there was a heavy presence of police personnel and other security agencies on the roads to ensure the protest does not lead to chaos.

Our correspondent reported that nobody came out for the protest in the State.
Some residents who spoke on the protest applauded Sowore for his brave effort in leading the protest. Mr. Donald Eberechukwu, a commercial bus driver, said: “He’s not from Igbo land but he’s leading a protest we should have led; we should have been at the forefront.”
Another resident who did not disclose his name said: “We can’t come out because we’re afraid; the security agencies might descend on us. For me, I prefer to remain indoors.”
