The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Ajao Saka Adewale, over the weekend embarked on an unannounced inspection of police divisional headquarters across the State as part of efforts to strengthen discipline, professionalism and operational effectiveness within the Command.
The police divisional headquarters visited include: Ekeki Police Division, Azikoro Police Division, Akenfa Police Division and Igbogene Police Division, which is strategically located along East-West Road, Bayelsa-Delta.
During the visits, the Commissioner of Police, while inspecting the general state of the facilities, detention areas, offices, operational arrangements, and sanitary conditions of the various formations, expressed displeasure over poorly maintained facilities.
According to him, clean and habitable police stations are essential to the dignity, discipline and efficiency of the Force.
He also interacted directly with officers and men, listened to their concerns and assessed their level of preparedness for effective policing.
CP Ajao further issued a stern warning against unlawful detention, arbitrary arrest and any form of abuse of the rights of suspects or members of the public, directing officers to strictly adhere to the provisions of the law and established police procedures.
He emphasized that while the Command remains committed to decisive action against crime and criminality, such actions must be carried out within the ambit of the law, with respect for human dignity and fundamental rights.
The surprise visits, according to the Commissioner, will be sustained across other formations in the State, noting that effective leadership requires direct engagement, inspection and accountability at the operational level.
