Unions in the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) have called off their planned strike action following a meeting with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
The meeting, which focused on staff welfare and unresolved financial issues, produced a series of resolutions jointly signed by representatives of the unions and senior management officials, effectively averting the industrial action that was scheduled to begin at midnight.
According to the communiqué, both sides reached agreements on several key issues, including the salary relativity matter, payment of 2024 minimum wage arrears, and settlement of nine months of consequential salary adjustments.

It was also agreed that NiMet management would immediately pay 30 omitted staff members from the agency’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), while 35% of the approved furniture grant would be implemented now and the remaining 65% captured in the 2026 budget.
In addition, an Inter-Agency Account Reconciliation Committee will be set up by the Permanent Secretary to reconcile funds due to NiMet from other agencies, while union representatives would be involved in follow-up engagements with the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) and the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF).
The Minister praised the union leaders for their maturity and constructive dialogue, stressing that the Ministry remains committed to promoting industrial harmony and improved staff welfare across the aviation sector.
