The Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba, Lagos, recently held its 23rd matriculation ceremony, which took place at the Sir Kensington Adebutu Media Resource Centre, Ogba.

The ceremony witnessed the official matriculation of 293 students into the National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), and Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programmes of the institution for the 2026 academic session.

In his remarks on the occasion, the Provost of NIJ, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, disclosed that the institution followed due process in admitting the new students into its various programmes.

According to him, “The admission was conducted in strict compliance with national standards in collaboration with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and fully processed through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).”

The provost disclosed that out of 293 students, 138 students were admitted into the National Diploma (ND) programmes, 69 into Higher National Diploma (HND), and 86 into Postgraduate Diploma (PGD).

Among dignitaries who spoke at the event was the acting Zonal Director, JAMB Headquarters Annexe, Lagos, Mrs. Olajumoke Adeleke, who was represented by Mrs. Oluwakemi Awosanya.

She commended the NIJ for strictly adhering to the approved procedures on admissions, while congratulating the matriculating students on the commencement of their academic journey.

Adeleke also urged the new students to verify their admission status as well as print their letter of admission from the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), stressing that it remains the only recognised platform for admissions to tertiary institutions in the country. “Your admission must reflect on CAPS. That is your academic safeguard,” she advised.

She encouraged the students to personally confirm their status, adding that CAPS was designed to promote transparency, fairness, and accountability in the nation’s tertiary education system.
