Amnesty International on Wednesday strongly condemned the killing of Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, a social media political commentator, whose body was found in a pool of blood at his home in Kano.
It was learnt that the incident occurred in Gaida, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.
Dan Shagamu, it was further learnt, had been unreachable for two days before his lifeless body was discovered in his residence by neighbours.
In a statement, the Amnesty said Dan Shagamu was brutally slaughtered after being overpowered by his killers.
The socio-political critic was known for his online commentary under the name Dan-Shagamu International, focusing on political, religious and community issues, and had been critical of both the Kano State and Federal governments.
Amnesty called on Nigerian authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure that those suspected of responsibility are brought to justice.

“In a democracy, critics are listened to, not killed,” the organisation said.
The group expressed serious concern that the Nigerian Government is doing very little to prevent widespread political violence, including killings, threats, intimidation and other serious human rights violations as the 2027 general election approaches.
“As the elections approach, we continue to receive disturbing reports of politically related threats to life and intimidation,” Amnesty added.
Daily Sun learnt that Dan Shagamu had previously raised concerns about threats to his life from people in his neighbourhood.
The Kano State Police Command has not confirmed the critic’s death.
