Nigerians in the diaspora have been urged to actively support the presidential bid of Peter Obi and his party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), to not only unseat President Bola Tinubu, but also to redeem the country.

The diaspora coordinator of the NDC and Peter Obi Presidential Campaign in Sweden, Ikeagwuonwu Chinedu Klinsmann, who made the call in a statement, urged millions of Nigerians abroad to actively participate in what he described as the redemption and rebuilding of Nigeria.

He called on Nigerians across Europe, North America and other parts of the world to unite behind Obi and the NDC, stating that the 2027 election would determine whether Nigeria descends further into despair or rises to its full potential.

Klinsman, a former chieftain of the APC, accused the Tinubu administration of failing to tackle worsening economic hardship, insecurity and governance challenges, arguing that the country’s current problems had deepened poverty and public frustration.

“Economic policies introduced by the Federal Government, including fuel subsidy removal and the floating of the Naira, have triggered soaring inflation, rising living costs and growing food insecurity, while public debt and youth unemployment continue to rise.

“There is a growing, unstoppable call for leadership change. Nigerians are rejecting the status quo and turning toward Obi and the NDC as the vehicle for a new Nigeria,” he said.

He described Nigerians in the diaspora as a critical force capable of influencing the outcome of the next presidential election through funding, advocacy, voter mobilisation and knowledge transfer.

He called on Nigerians overseas to support campaign structures, fund voter education programmes, mobilise relatives at home to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and intensify advocacy for diaspora voting rights.

Obi, according to him, remained the most credible candidate to rescue Nigeria, citing his records as Governor of Anambra State, where he was widely praised for fiscal prudence, investment in education and healthcare and prudent management of public resources.

He stated that if Obi wins the election in 2027, he would strengthen national security, stimulate production and industrialisation, expand social investments, tackle corruption and promote inclusive governance.
