Few weeks after being crowned champion at the World Veterans Wrestling Champion in Amman, Jordan Mapsin Elias Mika has predicted that Nigerian Wrestlers will dominate the sport for a long time.
Tke Adamawa State-born veteran wrestler, who spoke from his Brussels, Belgium base, was crowned champipn of the world veterans wrestling after outclassing five top opponents in Amman.
Mika, who is a reknowned coach, said Nigeria is blessed with quality wrestlers who have the potentials of becoming worldwide champions.
“I must first of all congratulate myself for placing third in my third participation in the World Veteran Wrestling Championship. I trained hard and endured so much before this success story.
“I’m particularly grateful to Coach Babatunde James; the Technical Director, Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Purity Akor; President, Veteran Wrestlers of Nigeria, Chief MauriceAtula; and President, Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Bashir Adewale, who is also the Controller General, Nigeria Customs Service, for the moral, technical, and financial support they gave me at different times.
“Both veteran and youth wrestlers have total confidence in the leadership of the NWF. Nigerian wrestlers have been reassured of sufficient training and international opportunities for training and competitions. These are special boosts that would bring out the best from all of us,” he said while hoping there would be improvement in facilities and sponsorship.
“The Veteran Wrestlers Association, under leadership of Maurice Atula, has always sued for regular wrestling championships at the six geopolitical zones. The wrestling federation is in full support of our ideology and we are working together for the growth of Nigeria wrestling. The federation president is sponsoring championships and providing more contacts for development of wrestling.
“I’m inspired by what I achieved at the World Veterans Wrestling Championship. I’m sure other young and veteran wresters would aim for more now that we are guaranteed of more local and international championships and lots more”, concluded the Adamawa born wrestler who promised to arrive Nigeria next week, to celebrate his feat with stakeholders and further inspire younger wrestlers.
