The Super Eagles will be without in-form striker Kelechi Iheanacho from the squad for this month’s crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying double-header against Tanzania as he has been snubbed, while Victor Osimhen is also missing following a knee injury.
Osimhen underwent knee surgery yesterday, with his Turkish club, Galatasaray, confirming that the striker will be sidelined for several weeks.
However, Iheanacho’s omission has raised eyebrows, given his impressive scoring form in Turkey. The forward is currently the leading scorer in the Turkish second division with 17 goals and was also among the goalscorers when a makeshift Super Eagles side played out an entertaining 3-3 draw against Russia last month.
With both Osimhen and Iheanacho unavailable for selection, Nigeria will look to Jerome Akor Adams and Tolu Arokodare to provide the firepower in the decisive encounters against Tanzania.

Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has also been excluded from the squad following the controversy surrounding his late arrival at camp last month. Meanwhile, Slavia Prague midfielder Mubarak Suleiman has earned an opportunity to make his Super Eagles debut after missing last month’s friendly against Russia because his club did not release him.
Nigeria will host Tanzania at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, November 13, before travelling to Zanzibar for the return fixture at the Amman Stadium on Tuesday, November 17.
The Super Eagles, currently second in Group L, face two crucial fixtures as they seek to strengthen their qualification hopes and secure a place at the 2027 AFCON finals, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
