The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration following Nigeria’s ranking as the fourth most terrorism-affected country globally in the 2026 Global Terrorism Index (GTI).
ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi said the ranking reflects “more attacks, more deaths, and communities living in fear” across the country.
“Nigeria is now ranked the 4th most terrorism-affected country in the world. That is not an abstract statistic. It is a direct reflection of the failure of the Bola Tinubu-led APC government to secure the country,” he added.
According to the GTI report, attacks rose from 120 in 2024 to 171 in 2025, with Borno State accounting for 67 per cent of incidents and 72 per cent of deaths. Civilians make up 67 per cent of fatalities, highlighting their vulnerability.
Abdullahi criticised the federal leadership for being absent during crises. “At a moment when Nigerians are grieving and communities across the country are living under constant threat, Tinubu, his National Security Adviser, and the Minister of Defence are abroad.

The contrast is clear: a country in crisis, and a leadership that is absent,” he said.
The party also highlighted the continued threat from Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province, and emerging groups like Lakurawa. Abdullahi warned that without urgent reforms, insecurity could worsen.
He outlined ADC’s proposed measures, including better coordination of intelligence, a decentralised policing system across states and communities, and a shift from reactive to preventive security strategies.
“Our focus will be to stop attacks before they happen, not merely respond after tragedy strikes,” he said.
The ADC called for structural reforms to strengthen governance and protect civilians, warning that political pageantry cannot replace decisive action against terrorism.
