As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, the Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, has extended warm congratulations to all Nigerians, describing the milestone as a time for both celebration and renewed commitment to national development.

Dr. Abdullahi particularly praised President Bola Tinubu, for his visionary leadership and unprecedented commitment to solving Nigeria’s longstanding energy challenges through the Renewed Hope Agenda, especially the national solarization project, which he described as “unmatched in Nigeria’s history.”

“This solarization project has become one major aspect of the Tinubu administration that is already giving joy and hope to the Nigerian populace,” Dr. Abdullahi said.

He emphasized that the successful implementation of the project requires the collective support of all Nigerians, noting that it is a key step in addressing the nation’s inadequate power supply—a challenge that has long hindered socio-economic development.

According to the ECN DG, the solarization initiative represents a critical policy direction under the Renewed Hope Agenda and calls for full alignment from stakeholders in the energy sector.

“The Federal Government, through the Energy Commission of Nigeria, has remained fully committed to providing Nigerians with more sustainable power alternatives through solar energy. This will reduce our overdependence on the national grid, which has been plagued for years by collapses, vandalism, and sabotage,” he stated.

Dr. Abdullahi further declared: “Since independence, no administration has shown greater commitment than the Tinubu administration in delivering alternative, renewable energy solutions to Nigerians. This is the global best practice for any nation committed to meaningful development.”

He highlighted the economic and social benefits of the project, including:job creation in solar manufacturing, installation, and maintenance.Innovation opportunities for Nigerian engineers and entrepreneurs.Improved rural electrification and energy equity.Reduced pressure on the fragile national grid.

“This is not just about cost-cutting. It’s about long-term energy security, empowering the underserved, and creating a sustainable energy future for Nigeria. The solarization of Nigeria will be remembered as the spark that ignited our national energy revolution,” he added.

Dr. Abdullahi also underscored the role of research, innovation, and global collaboration in achieving Nigeria’s energy transition goals, reaffirming ECN’s commitment to supporting policies aligned with international climate objectives.
