The Niger State Government, on Monday, said it has spent about N80 million on 30 indigenes studying in various institutions abroad.
Hajiya Fatima Madugu, Commissioner for Science and Technology, made the disclosure in an interview, in Minna.
Madugu said that the beneficiaries were mainly female undergraduates in the field of Medicine and Engineering.
She said that the aim was to encourage girl-child education and boost manpower capacity of the state in critical areas of need.
The commissioner said that the government had given priority to students undertaking professional courses relevant to immediate human needs.
Madugu added that the government was also taking care of students from the state in various tertiary institutions across the country.
She advised students who were qualified for the bursary awards to avail themselves of the opportunity in the course of their studies. (NAN)
