The Katcha local government area of Niger State was thrown into mourning following the death of the chairman, Hon. Danlami Abdullahi Saku, who died in a fatal auto crash along Minna-Suleja Road in the State.
Hon. Saku was said to have run into a trailer in his new jeep recently distributed to all council chairmen in the state while travelling from Minna, the state capital, to Abuja.
The unfortunate accident occurred at about 7:00 pm at Kwakuti village along the deplorable and ever-busy Minna-Suleja highway on Tuesday.
It was gathered that while the body of the late chairman was being evacuated from the scene of the accident to a nearby hospital, the vehicle conveying the deceased was again involved in another incident where about four people who came to render help sustained some degree of injuries.
The death of the council chairman was confirmed in a statement on Tuesday night by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Niger State governor, Bologi Ibrahim.

He said the demise of Saku is a sharp reminder that all creatures are from Allah, and unto Him they will return at the appointed time.

The deplorable condition of the road informed the decision of the state governor, Rt Hon Umaru Mohammed Bago, to call for the revocation of the road contract, which was awarded to Salin Nigeria Construction Company in 2010.
The road has remained a death trap and has continued to claim lives owing to the bad condition of the 83-kilometre road, the only major highway that links the state capital with the federal capital, Abuja.
