Niger Delta youths condemn attack on defence ministers, task Nigerians on peace, security
By Sunday Ani
The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has condemned the attack on the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, by a former aide to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Daniel Bwala.
This was contained in a statement signed by the NDYC’s national coordinator, Israel Uwejeyan and made available to the Daily Sun.
The group accused Bwala of making a remark suggesting the potential exit of the two ministers from President Bola Tinubu’s administration; a statement the group frowned at, noting that it was uncalled for and capable of sowing the seed of discord within the nation’s security apparatus.
The group accused Bwala’s of political nomadism, stressing that he has kept jumping from one political camp to another, an attitude the group attributed to lack of political integrity and loyalty.
It commended the defence ministers for their commitment to ensuring the security and stability of the nation, particularly in the face of the ongoing security challenges.
The group urged the ministers to remain focused on their responsibilities and not be distracted by such baseless accusations.
It also urged President Tinubu not to be swayed by individuals who have demonstrated a lack of loyalty and could not be trusted to serve in any capacity within the administration.
The group expressed confidence in the President’s commitment to selecting individuals of integrity and loyalty to serve in his administration.
It urged Nigerians to continue to support the efforts of those who are genuinely committed to the peace and security of the nation.
Part of the statement read: “The ministers have been steadfast in their commitment to ensuring the security and stability of our nation.
“Their tireless efforts in coordinating and strengthening the operations of our Armed Forces, particularly in the face of ongoing security challenges, have been commendable and should be lauded by all well-meaning Nigerians.
“The NDYC stands firmly with the ministers and assures them of its unwavering support as they continue their vital work in safeguarding Nigeria.
“We call on all Nigerians to see through the smokescreen created by political buccaneers and to continue supporting the efforts of those who are genuinely committed to the peace and security of our nation,” the group submitted.
