An NGO, Kungiyar Tallafin Mata Development Initiative (KTMDI), has advocated for a law to regulate open sales and hawking of sex enhancement drugs and herbs.
Malam Umar Musa, Deputy Executive Director, KTMDI stated this in a Communique at the end of a three-day training made available to the newsmen in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
The training, held in Birnin Kebbi, was organised by KTMDI under the Women Voice and Leadership Nigeria (WVL-N) Project, supported by ActionAid Nigera (AAN) and funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC).
Musa observed that open sales and hawking of sex enhancement drugs and herbs is exposing such drugs to minors, resulting to indecent and immoral development.
“Sales of sex enhancement drugs and herbs should be regulated and not to be openly displayed or exposed to minors. Open sales and hawking of sex enhancement drugs and herbs is alarming and expose such drugs to communities especially minors, resulting to indecent immoral development.
“Excessive consumption of sex enhancement drugs is one of the triggers to alarming rape cases across the country,” he observed.
He said the training exercise was meant to transfer knowledge and skills necessary for self-development and enhance women ability to mobilise and organise for effective action.
According to him, other recommendations included; massive sensitisation of rural women on dangers of self-medication to avoid drug abuse and 35 per cent affirmative action is now a women right, not a privilege or favour.
Others he said were; the Kebbi State Government should appoint a woman as Commissioner for the Ministry for Women Affairs and Social Development in addition to providing women folk the opportunity to engage in acceptable enterprises of their choices for sustainable development and poverty eradication.
