Ngige’s community ends 7-year-old crisis

Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, and his Alor community in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State have commended the Federal Government, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, for making the return of peace to the community possible after seven years of crisis.

Speaking yesterday, at Nkwo Alor Market Square, after the inauguration of new executive members of the town union, led by Chief Uzoma Igbonwa and 17 others, Ngige chided Anambra State Government for denying his community democratically elected government for seven years, an action he described as undemocratic. 

Ngige said despite his plea and request to the state government, since 2014, to allow Alor community elect the leadership of it’s town union government democratically, the government refused, but went ahead to deny the community state government’s presence. 

Ngige and his kinsmen aso hailed president Buhari’s giant strides in the development of infrastructure in the South-East Zone and Alor, in particular.

More importantly,  the convention appreciated and commended president Buhari for appointing their illustrious son, Senator Ngige, as minister and for citing some ecological projects and skill acquisition centre in Alor, adding that they would use the rescheduled elections to appreciate him. 

The Alor Convention congratulated the elected officials and urged them to work together and strive to “restore peace, unity, harmony, brotherliness and solidarity among Alor indigenes and their neighbours.”

The convention also urged  Alor indigenes at home and abroad to cooperate with the new executive committee, by giving them the requisite support in the discharge of their duties. They, however, deplored, in strong terms, the actions of those they described as disgruntled elements in the community, who, “with the active support of Anambra State government,”  did everything possible to scuttle the holding of the court ordered election.

The community, therefore, appealed  to the state government, led by Governor Willie Obiano, to allow democracy to thrive in Alor, by resisting the pressure from some misguided elements, who were bent on causing trouble and disharmony in the town.
