News Central has inaugurated a new Editorial Board, appointing renowned journalist Femi Oke, lawyer and policy strategist Dr Sam Amadi, and human rights lawyer Chidi Odinkalu as members, in a move the company says is aimed at strengthening editorial oversight and newsroom standards.
According to News Central, the board is mandated to oversee editorial policies, guide content strategy, promote investigative journalism and ensure adherence to ethical standards. It is also expected to support initiatives focused on newsroom development, including youth journalism training and collaborations with international media bodies aimed at tackling misinformation. The board was unveiled on Monday at its headquarters in Lagos, where media stakeholders and industry figures gathered for the inauguration.
Other members of the board include South African entrepreneur and media executive Given Mkhari, Executive Director of Enough is Enough Nigeria, Yemi Adamolekun, Founder and Chairman of Proshare Limited, Olufemi Awoyemi, and Editor-in-Chief and Managing Director of News Central Television, Kayode Akintemi. In his keynote address, Akintemi said the board would play a central role in shaping the organisation’s editorial direction and response to Nigeria’s evolving media environment.
“This Editorial Board represents our resolve to focus on depth, investigative journalism and amplifying the voice of the everyday person,” he stated. “In an era of misinformation, we are fortifying our editorial independence to deliver credible news that empowers Nigerians and shapes Africa’s narrative.”
The inauguration comes amid growing scrutiny of media credibility and the spread of false information across digital platforms, placing increased pressure on news organisations to strengthen internal editorial structures and accountability frameworks. The broadcaster operates a 24-hour news service distributed across television and digital platforms, covering politics, business and social issues across Africa.
