New female-owned auto care aims to inspire girls, promote road safety in Nigeria

In a move that challenges gender stereotypes in Nigeria’s automobile industry, Olorunisola Temitope Favour is set to launch Favourite Auto Care, a solely-owned auto mechanic workshop in Lagos.

Favour’s story is one of courage and determination. Years ago, she survived a tragic road accident caused by a vehicle serviced by an unqualified mechanic. The crash, which left her bedridden for almost a year, became the turning point in her life.

Rather than give up, she resolved to become a skilled mechanic to save lives and inspire young girls to succeed in male-dominated fields.

“That accident changed my life forever,” she said, adding; “I realised that a single act of negligence could destroy lives and families, I decided to learn the trade properly, not just to fix cars but to save lives and empower others.”

Through rigorous training and hard work, Favour rose above societal barriers and raised funds to establish Favourite Auto Care, a workshop that will provide quality vehicle diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance.

Beyond running a business, she is passionate about mentoring and training young girls to acquire auto mechanic skills that will make them financially independent.

The official launch in Lagos will feature free vehicle checks, talk shows on auto care and road safety, and mentorship sessions for girls interested in technical professions. The event is expected to attract stakeholders from the automobile industry, NGOs, technical colleges, and government agencies.

According to her, she seeks partnerships with Non governmental organisations,  government bodies, and private sector players to expand training opportunities for girls, saying she   believes that skilled female mechanics can help reduce unemployment and prevent accidents caused by poorly serviced vehicles.

“Proper vehicle maintenance can save lives. By training qualified mechanics, we can improve road safety and create career opportunities for young women,” she said.

Observers described the launch of Favourite Auto Care as a bold step for gender inclusion and technical education in Nigeria. The workshop aims to be both a service hub and a training center where girls can gain practical skills and mentorship for long-term careers.

Favour’s journey is already inspiring conversations about women in technical fields and the importance of vocational education.

As she prepares to open her doors, she hopes to show that women can thrive in any profession.

“I want every girl to know that their dreams are valid. If I can rise after a devastating accident and build something meaningful, then they too can,” she said.

With her inspiring story and commitment to mentorship, Favour is not just launching a business, she is championing empowerment, safety, and social change in Nigeria.

The launch  marks the start of a new chapter for women in technical professions, offering both quality auto services and opportunities for the next generation to thrive.
