Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, on Sunday, elected new officers that would pilot the affairs of the party in the next four years.

Some of the officers who were part of the last executives made it into the new one; and that included Chief Basil Ejidike who retained his state chairmanship position.

The exercise which took place at the premises of Mable Arch Hotels, Awka was organised by the State Congress Committee sent by the national leadership of the party for that purpose. The seven-man committee was led by Nwanozie Nwosu as chairman.

The new executives emerged via a consensus reached by the members and stakeholders of the party present at the event, including the ward and local government officers of the party.

Before the commencement of the exercise, Nwosu made it clear that the team sent from Abuja had no interest and as such would carryout the will of the party men and women.

“We are not going to impose our will on you as we don’t have one. What will happen here today is your will. And everything here will happen according to your wish. It is going to be fair and transparent”, he said.

Nwosu further told the party faithful that his team was the only authentic congress committee drafted for that exercise by the national leadership of the party, saying that any other gathering of people anywhere for such exercise should be disregarded.

“This is the authentic congress recognized by the national leadership of the party”, he said.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Ralph Okeke, announced that his team successfully conducted the ward congresses on Wednesday, and that the local government congresses were equally successfully conducted on Friday.

The motion for the affirmation of the new executives of the party led by Chief Ejidike was moved by Chinedu Eluemuno, a former member of the National Assembly for Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency. He was seconded by Charles Ezeani, a former Anambra State House of Assembly member for Anaocha 1 Constituency.

Later on, there was a consensus affirmation by voice vote by the members of the party present at the venue.

Former senator for Anambra South Senatorial Zone, Andy Uba, whose governorship candidacy of the party in the November 6, 2021 election in the state was nullified by an Abuja court was present at the event. He commended the exercise, describing it as peaceful, fair and transparent.

Ejidike, in his acceptance speech, promised to work harder to ensure that the party wins National Assembly and state House of Assembly seats in the 2023 elections in the state.
