The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has identified the importance of the State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMA) and other critical stakeholders in the activities of the agency, particularly in quick response to natural and human-induced disasters.
To this end, the agency renewed its readiness to continue to support and sustain the partnership with all the SEMAs to enhance a robust and effective emergency preparedness, response and mitigation in Nigeria.
NEMA spokesman, Sani Datti, in a statement noted that the Director General, Muhammad Sani Sidi, made the promise at a stakeholders meeting on coordination of humanitarian services for post-conflict recovery and reconstruction in Yobe State.
He said the agency would not relent in providing support services to the state and other northeast states, particularly those ravaged by insurgency, not only in the area of humanitarian interventions, but also in the area of capacity building for its key stakeholders as disaster and emergencies have become part of human societal evolution.
He said: “Disasters allow us to rebuild our communities with greater level of resilience and stronger capacity for adaptation. We must use the current post-disaster reconstruction, rehabilitation and recovery phase to rebuild our communities in a sustainable manner and restore the past glory of North-East region and its people.”
