Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has launched a technical training programme for personnel in its Corporate Affairs and Protocol departments, focusing on cutting-edge technologies, including drone piloting, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital content production.

The workshop, themed, “Promoting innovative media: Integrating AI knowledge, drone piloting and content creation” is part of a strategic move to modernise the Commission’s communication machinery and enhance its institutional storytelling.

Declaring the session open, Executive Director, Corporate Services, Ifedayo Abegunde, represented by his Assistant Director, Dr. Oluwatimilehin Bada, lauded the NDDC leadership for prioritising innovation. He specifically commended the Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, for his vision in integrating emerging technologies into the Commission’s operations.

“The idea behind this is to empower and enhance the knowledge of our image-making personnel. By tapping into the creativity of AI, they will be able to deliver more effectively, allowing the Commission to tell the Niger Delta story clearer and better,” Bada stated. Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Udonte, noted that the Commission was proactive in adopting global digital trends. He observed that while Africa has often been slow to embrace AI, the NDDC recognised it as an indispensable tool for the future.

“The world is going digital and AI cannot be ignored. We want our staff to be abreast of the global shifts. We are starting with corporate affairs and protocol to ensure our communication is at par with international standards,” he said.

Head of the New Media Unit and Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs, Dr. Selina Dan-Albert, emphasised the need for speed and efficiency in modern information management.

“As the brand custodians of the NDDC, we must gather and process information as quickly as possible. This training will enable us to meet the demands of a fast-paced media landscape,” she remarked.

The training covers practical sessions in drone operations for aerial photography, advanced video editing and the application of AI tools in content generation, signalling a significant shift towards a tech-driven public relations strategy for the interventionist agency.
