The promoter of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), Umar Ardo, has described the registration of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) as a “national fraud,” insisting that the decision of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to join the party does not change his position on what he considers a flawed political process.
Ardo said his opposition to the NDC was not driven by personal hostility toward Obi or any political rivalry, but by his determination to stop what he believes is a serious national deception.
According to him, he personally reached out to individuals close to Obi and asked them to advise the former Labour Party presidential candidate against moving to the NDC, insisting that there were better political alternatives available.
He also revealed that he met with Kwankwaso and raised the same concerns, warning him about the unresolved issues surrounding how the party was registered.
“I reached out to everyone close to Peter Obi and asked them to tell him that if they were considering moving to another party, there are other options available, not the NDC,” he said.

“The issue of how the party was registered remains unresolved. I also met with Kwankwaso and raised the same concerns with him.”
Despite those warnings, both Obi and Kwankwaso eventually aligned with the party, a development Ardo said did not improve the legitimacy concerns surrounding the NDC.
“Despite that, both of them joined the party. Their move has not changed anything — the situation is still as bad as it was,” he stated.
Ardo maintained that his resistance to the party’s registration was personal and based on principle, not a political strategy on behalf of the ADA.
“I have no motive other than to stop what I believe is a national fraud. You cannot come in this way and expect people to vote for you,” he added.
He stressed that his criticism was focused entirely on the legitimacy of the party’s registration process and not on the individuals who chose to join it.
