The Nigerian Navy has pledged to strengthen surveillance and security around Nigeria’s oil and gas assets to protect revenue and economic stability.

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, made this known during an interdenominational service to mark the 70th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy at the Navy Protestant Church in Calabar.

Represented by Rear Admiral Chidozie Okehie, Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Eastern Naval Command, Abbas noted that going forward, the Navy will work in line with modern trends in terms of surveillance and platforms to carryout it’s operations.

“Going forward, the Navy will align with modern trends in surveillance and platforms to carry out its operations,” Okehie said.

“Since 1956, we have grown from a veteran guard into a fully fledged navy capable of major combat and security operations. We remain the sentinel of Nigeria’s maritime assets, valued at billions of dollars, and are committed to protecting them,” he added.

Okehie also urged officers and ratings to prioritize family welfare, saying it was critical to morale and operational effectiveness.

In his homily, Cdr. Raphael Adelena called on naval personnel to remain united in pursuit of national peace and security.

He commended the Navy for its professionalism, integrity, and urged them to maintain the discipline needed in the fight against insecurity.
