The Nigerian Navy has attributed the tremendous achievements recorded by the service in its 70 years of existence to God’s divine grace and favour.

Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, who made this known, described the Nigerian navy at 70, as a formidable maritime force and a critical pillar of Nigeria’s national security architecture.
He said this at the Inter-denominational Church Service to mark the 70 years anniversary in Abuja.

Represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans(COPP), Rear Admiral Akintola Olodude, Abbas who expressed profound gratitude to the Almighty God, reiterated that the Navy will continue to support the Federal Government drive towards national development and enhanced security in line with the renewed agenda of President Bola Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The navy chief who commended officers and ratings for their bravery, commitment and determination in protecting the nations maritime environment, said their patrotism, sacrifice and unwavering dedication have contributed to the growth and transformation of the Nigerian Navy into the highly respected service.

He said “As we mark this historic milestone, we return all glory to God for his grace, mercy and protection over the service through seven decades of honour, sacrifice, resilience and dedicated service to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He said “Since its establishment in 1956, the Nigerian Navy has grown from modest beginning into a formidable professional and respected maritime force committed to the defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity and the protection of our maritime interests. Without his divine grace and favour, the remarkable achievement of the Nigerian Navy would not have been possible,” the CNS said.

In his sermon delivered during the service, the Director of Naval Chaplain Services, Rev. Commander Joseph Elises, said God will visit the Nigerian Navy at 70 as he visited the Israelites in captivity in the land Babylon at the promised time.

Quoting from Jeremiah Chapter 29: 10 and 11, Elises said the figure 70 is very important as it represents the end of an era and the beginning of another, praying God to regenerate the Nigerian Navy and makes it greater.

He said: “Your season of divine visitation has come. A divine encounter is coming for the Navy, a divine encounter is coming for Nigeria, and a divine encounter is coming for you and your families. Everyone has divine appointed time with God”.
