In a resounding call to action, the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) convened a landmark one-day National Youth Symposium in Abuja on Friday.
Daily Sun Reports that the symposium aimed to galvanize young minds towards sustainable economic ventures and empowerment. Chief Lai Labode, CEO of Cashtoken Reward Africa, set the tone, urging Nigerian youth to embrace entrepreneurship for wealth creation.
This was made known in a communique jointly signed by Signed, Rt. Hon. Shuaibu Sani,National Speaker, YAN and Rt. Hon. Usman Saidu, Chairman, Organizing Committee send to Daily Sun on Sunday.
According to Rt. Hon. Shuaibu Sani, National Speaker of YAN, “Our resolve is clear: to shift from old paradigms to new economic ventures in entrepreneurship, technological innovation, and skills acquisition.”
Among the critical resolutions was a plea to the government for an enabling environment for young entrepreneurs. Rt. Hon. Usman Saidu, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, emphasized, “We need policies that facilitate access to capital and foster youth contribution to the GDP.”
The symposium also addressed pressing national issues. Concerns were raised over inflation and the high cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). “The government must act swiftly to alleviate these hardships,” stated Sani.
The directive requiring Point of Sale (PoS) operators to register within two months drew strong criticism. Saidu asserted, “While registration is important, the timing is unacceptable. We urge for more time and wider registration centers.”
In solidarity with recent events, the abduction of students from Confluence University of Science and Technology sparked calls for enhanced campus security. “Government must prioritize the safety of our students,” demanded Sani.
The imposition of a 0.5% cybersecurity levy faced outright rejection from Nigerian youth. “We refuse unnecessary taxation, especially in these challenging times,” stated Saidu.
Currency instability also came under scrutiny. “We demand economic interventions to stabilize the currency and support young entrepreneurs,” urged Sani.
the symposium heralded a new era of proactive youth engagement. “Education and skills acquisition are paramount for our future,” affirmed Saidu. “We are ready for change,” echoed Sani.
The event concluded with recognition of key supporters of youth initiatives. “We honor those who stand with us in our journey towards prosperity,” stated Saidu.
