The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has set a global record, becoming the first public relations institute in the world to win the Global Public Relations Association of the Year Award for two consecutive years.

The historic feat followed the institute’s emergence as winner of the 2026 edition of the prestigious international award, having also clinched the honour in the previous year.

The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management, Justin Green, announced the award in Abuja on Friday at the launch of the Youth Digital Campaign for the forthcoming 2026 World Public Relations Forum (WPRF).

Green described the achievement as a great honour for Nigeria, noting that NIPR emerged ahead of competing professional associations from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and India.

“The competition was open for public relations associations in North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Middle East and Indian. It is truly a great honour for NIPR to have won this award for a second time running, which shows the calibre, experience and expertise within Nigeria. It is a true credit that couldn’t have come at a better time,” he said.

The Global Alliance said the 2026 edition attracted 92 entries from different countries across the world, with winners determined through a rigorous evaluation process conducted by an international panel of distinguished judges.

Reacting to the recognition, NIPR President, Dr Ike Neliaku, said the achievement demonstrated Nigeria’s capacity to attain global leadership in different areas of human endeavour, urging the country’s leaders to harness its domestic potential to reposition its international reputation.

He said the institute, which is responsible for regulating the public relations profession and safeguarding the nation’s reputation, had deliberately pursued initiatives to project Nigeria’s achievements and tell its story of excellence to the international community.

“As an Institute charged with the responsibility of regulating the practice of public relations and man the reputation gates of the nation, we understand the value of reputation and we are deliberate in telling the Nigerian story of excellence before the global community.

“I am proud to say that no country on earth is close to matching our Institute’s bold initiatives, innovations and developmental projects,” Neliaku said.

The NIPR president said the award had come at a significant time as Nigeria prepared to host the 2026 World Public Relations Forum from November 15 to 22.

He described the forthcoming international gathering as a national reputation project that would redefine how the country is perceived globally.

According to him, Nigeria’s hosting of the forum would set another international standard that would take decades to surpass.

The forum is expected to bring together public relations and communication professionals from different parts of the world to discuss developments in the industry and strengthen global collaboration.

Neliaku said the event would provide Nigeria with another opportunity to demonstrate its capacity, showcase its professional expertise and strengthen its position in the global public relations community.
