National Convention: PDP built today’s political class, says Lamido

PDP National Convention

At the PDP National Convention, former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, said the Peoples Democratic Party laid the foundation for Nigeria’s political landscape, describing it as the platform that built today’s political class.

Lamido, speaking at the party’s national convention,  said the PDP remains deeply rooted across the country, with a presence “in every village and in every home,” unlike newer political movements.

“PDP is in every village, in every home; the other parties who are now talking, most of them, were the creation of PDP,” says former Jigawa State Gov. Sule Lamido.

He argued that many of the key figures now leading other political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), were originally nurtured within the PDP.

According to him, even influential actors in emerging parties such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have roots in the former ruling party.

“If you look at APC, if you take away Bola Tinubu, all of them were in PDP; key players in the ADC were in PDP,” Lamido added.

Reflecting on the early days of the PDP, the former governor recounted the sacrifices made by founding members to establish a national platform capable of uniting Nigerians after years of military rule.

He also appealed to aggrieved members of the party to set aside personal grievances and recommit to its broader vision, stressing that the PDP is not driven by individual ambitions but by a collective goal of national development.

Lamido urged party faithful to remember the PDP’s legacy and work towards strengthening its unity ahead of future political contests.
