The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has that the National Assembly Chapel, was a covenant between and Christian lawmakers.

Akpabio, who spoke at the inauguration, yesterday, by the First Lady, Mrs Remi Tinubu, implored Nigerians to look beyond religion and focus on patriotism and competence.

According to him, “I want us to see beyond religion and look at the quality of men, and pray that God will give us men who love Nigeria, men who are patriotic, men who can bring prosperity to Nigeria.”

He added”this was not built through appropriation. It was not built through the nation’s money. It was built through contributions by past and present legislators.”

On his part, the deputy speaker, House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, stated that lawmakers do not operate alone, but under the guidance of the Almighty, whose authority underpins every human institution.

Kalu, while referencing Psalm 127:1: noted that “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain,” and
acknowledged the vision of previous assemblies, the perseverance of the Christian Legislators Fellowship over past legislative terms, and the support of Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in bringing the project to fruition.

He said “The commissioning of this Chapel within the hallowed precincts of the National Assembly is a declaration that as we make laws for over 200 million Nigerians, we do not do so alone. We do so in the presence of the Almighty, under whose sovereign authority every human institution exists.

“The Christian Legislators Fellowship has long been a conscience within this legislature. In chambers where debate can become combative and politics can become consuming, the Fellowship has kept alive the reminder that we are first and foremost accountable to a higher calling.”

The First Lady, Remi Tinubu, expressed delight that the National Assembly Christian Chapel, which started, a few years ago, has been completed.

Mrs Tinubu noted that the Chapel stands as a testament that while lawmakers legislate for the people, they remain accountable to God.

According to her, “this occasion is quite significant for me not only as a Christian but as a former legislator who only had the weekly fellowship in one of the committee rooms in the Senate building for twelve good years. To actually see this vision become a reality today my heart. And I thank God and give him all the glory for making today possible.

” As we dedicate this chapel today, may it inspire humility in leadership, coural in decision making, and compassion in service. And may Nigeria continue to flourish as we collectively seek the face of God in worship and prayer in this chapter in Jesus name”.
