In a devastating turn of events, the Agbashi community in Ekye Development Area of Nasarawa State bore the brunt of a fierce windstorm on Tuesday evening, resulting in the loss of one life, numerous injuries, and extensive property damage.
Confirming the incident to Daily Sun correspondent, Mr Anthony Oshinyeka, Acting Chairman of the Agbashi Development Association (ADA), expressed deep sorrow over the calamity that befell the community. He reported that over one hundred residential houses were destroyed, along with the Agbashi Central mosque and parts of Pilot Primary School Agbashi, among other public infrastructure.
“Our hearts go out to the affected families, and we mourn the loss of one life,” Mr. Oshinyeka lamented. “The devastation is profound, and urgent intervention is needed to alleviate the suffering of our people.”
The tragedy didn’t spare the nearby Bassa settlement in Iponu, where seven individuals sustained injuries amid the chaos.
Mr Oshinyeka appealed for immediate government assistance to provide relief to the distressed community. “We implore the government to swiftly release food and medical aids to those in need, especially the injured who are currently undergoing treatment in hospitals,” he urged.
Sun reports that the Agbashi community now faces a long road to recovery, but with concerted efforts from the government and compassionate individuals, they hope to rebuild and restore what has been lost.
