The Nasarawa South Senatorial District Reconciliation Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has submitted its report on efforts to reconcile aggrieved party members who challenged the outcome of the party’s recent congresses in court.

The committee, which was inaugurated by the zonal leadership, presented its findings on Thursday February 5th 2025, at the PDP Legacy Secretariat Complex along Jos Road, Lafia. The report was received by the Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Isa Wakwa, in the presence of key stakeholders from Awe, Doma, Keana, Lafia, and Obi Local Government Areas.

The committee, chaired by Brigadier General Phillip Ashim (Rtd.), was tasked with engaging party members who took legal action against the newly elected state party officials. Other members of the committee included Alhaji Ahmad Abdullahi, Hon. Dogara Abdullahi Adi, Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba, Hajiya Farida Umar, Arc. Godwin Ose Ashikeni, and Barr. Samuel Amegwa Obeka, who served as secretary.

Speaking at the event, Wakwa commended the committee for its dedication to restoring unity within the party.

“I sincerely appreciate the efforts of this committee, especially for carrying out this assignment without any official funding. This level of commitment to the PDP is commendable, and I pray for divine blessings on everyone who contributed to this effort,” he said.

The committee identified five party members who went to court over the congress results. They include former senators Mohammed O. Onawo and Suleiman A. Adokwe, Hon. Musa Abdullahi Elayo, Alhaji Adamu Egye Oyanki, and Hon. Jibrin Sabo Keana.

Using what it described as the Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement (BATNA) approach, the committee met with the aggrieved members at their Abuja residences, persuading them to embrace an out-of-court settlement for the unity of the party.

Barr. Samuel Amegwa Obeka, the committee secretary, while presenting the report, expressed gratitude to the zonal leadership for entrusting them with the responsibility.

“We engaged all the aggrieved members, presented the legal and political implications of the court case, and encouraged them to embrace dialogue. The PDP Constitution and other legal frameworks guided our discussions, and we are optimistic about a positive resolution,” Obeka said.

The crisis arose following the PDP state congress held in November 2024, which saw the emergence of new state party executives under the leadership of Alhaji Adamu Bako Ninga. Dissatisfied with the process, some members approached the High Court in Doma to challenge the outcome, despite the congress being recognized as one of the most peaceful in recent years.

However, Wakwa emphasized that the party was committed to resolving all internal disputes through dialogue and reconciliation.

“The PDP in Nasarawa is stronger than ever, and we will continue to work towards a united front ahead of future political engagements,” he added.

The event concluded with the official handover of the 18-page report, detailing the committee’s findings and recommendations, to the zonal leadership.
