- Vice Chancellor Prof Abdullahi Bala highlights university’s unique offerings to Nasarawa

In a groundbreaking press briefing on Wednesday, Prof Abdullahi Bala, the Vice Chancellor of Phoenix University, revealed the institution’s pioneering initiatives set to redefine education in Nasarawa State and beyond.
Daily Sun gathered that the university is Located in Agwada, Kokona Local Government Area, sprawls across a 100-hectare expanse, ready to embark on its journey of educational excellence following formal approval and registration by the Federal Executive Council on May 27, 2023.
The institution received its provisional license from the National Universities Commission on June 9, 2023, subsequently undergoing stringent evaluations, culminating in final approval to commence academic activities in 2023-2024 academic session.
Addressing the media and public, at the conference hall of the university, Prof Bala emphasised Phoenix University’s strategic positioning to address the educational deficit in the region.
Situated amidst the tranquility of Nasarawa State, Prof. Bala said the university aims to provide affordable education while attracting development to the hinterland, away from urban distractions and environmental pollution.
“One of the pivotal aspects distinguishing Phoenix University is its commitment to leveraging technology for comprehensive education delivery. Adding that the institution boasts a robust IT infrastructure facilitating seamless virtual interactions between lecturers and students, transcending barriers of time and space.
The university’s on-site facilities, Prof. Baba stressed that it is equipped with interactive boards and cutting-edge amenities, ensure a conducive learning environment. “With campus-based hostels, a fully functional Students’ Centre, and staff quarters noting that the University enables students to focus on academics while meeting their essential needs on-site.”
Prof. Bala highlighted the institution’s emphasis on practical learning, showcased through state-of-the-art laboratories bridging the gap between theory and application in various fields. Notably, Phoenix University’s Entrepreneurship Centre and Robotics Laboratory aim to equip graduates with marketable skills, fostering innovation and real-world problem-solving.
In an effort to make education accessible, the vice chancellor stated that the university offers heavily subsidised fees and flexible payment options, aiming to encourage enrolment and participation from a diverse range of students.
Embracing a pragmatic teaching and research model, Prof. Bala added that Phoenix University aims to strike a balance between practical and theoretical education, transcending conventional paradigms. “Focusing on more than just producing graduates, the university seeks to unlock the potentials of students, fostering innovation and global growth.”

Prof. Bala also highlighted the university’s mission centres on providing qualitative and affordable education, instilling leadership qualities and lifelong skills in graduates to tackle societal challenges. “For the 2023/2024 Academic Session, Phoenix University is set to commence various programs across its faculties: Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, Faculty of Computing, Faculty of Social and Management Sciences.
He said further plans for the 2024/2025 Academic Session include the introduction of programs aimed at addressing skill gaps in the medical sector through the Faculty of Allied Health.
He however, explained that Prospective students are required to meet the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) minimum cut-off mark and possess five credit passes in relevant subjects, including Mathematics and English, in the SSCE (WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB) at not more than two sittings.
