The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Agriculture has outlined the state’s ambitious agricultural plan for 2025, emphasizing the role of security, farmer support, and large-scale farming in transforming the sector.
Speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday in Lafia, the commissioner commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for providing an enabling environment for agriculture to thrive in the state.
“The governor has been instrumental in ensuring peace and security, which are essential for agricultural productivity. His administration has not only provided security but also supported farmers with seedlings and training, ensuring they have the tools needed for success,” the commissioner stated.
Highlighting the achievements of the 10,000-hectare rice farm in Jangwa, Awe Local Government Area, he revealed that over 2,000 hectares were successfully harvested in 2024. “This is a milestone for us. The Jangwa rice farm demonstrates the potential of Nasarawa as an agricultural hub and the capacity of our farmers when given the right support,” he added.
Looking ahead, the commissioner noted that the year 2025 would focus on fieldwork and active participation from stakeholders. “Agriculture in Nasarawa will no longer be about talking but about doing. Our farmers, stakeholders, and government officials must roll up their sleeves and get to work,” he declared.
He urged stakeholders across the state, regardless of political affiliation or religious background, to join hands in developing the Nasarawa Agricultural Plan. “We must put aside our differences and work together for the common goal of agricultural development. This is not just about food production; it is about creating jobs, ensuring food security, and boosting our economy,” he emphasized.
The commissioner also called on the state’s residents to maintain peace as they transition into the new year. “Without peace, there can be no progress. I urge everyone to remain peaceful and support our agricultural initiatives for the benefit of all,” he appealed.

From distributing high-yield seeds to organizing training workshops, his administration has laid the foundation for sustainable agriculture,” the commissioner remarked.
On the plans for 2025, he disclosed that the ministry would focus on expanding existing farms and exploring opportunities for new ones. “We aim to expand the Jangwa rice farm and replicate its success in other areas. Our target is to ensure that no farmer in Nasarawa is left behind,” he explained.
The commissioner assured farmers that the government would continue to provide subsidies and support for agricultural inputs. “We recognize the challenges our farmers face, and we are committed to easing their burdens. Subsidized fertilizers, access to credit facilities, and technical support will be top priorities,” he pledged.
He further called on international development partners and investors to tap into Nasarawa’s agricultural potential. “Nasarawa is open for business. We have fertile land, hardworking farmers, and a government that is ready to support investors. Let us work together to make Nasarawa a model state for agriculture in Nigeria,” he said.
The commissioner stressed the importance of innovation in agriculture, urging farmers to embrace new technologies and methods. “The world is changing, and we must change with it. Precision farming, mechanization, and digital tools are the future of agriculture, and we are ready to lead the way,” he stated.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to youth and women empowerment through agriculture. “Our programs are designed to ensure that women and young people are at the forefront of our agricultural revolution. They are the backbone of our communities, and their involvement is key to our success,” he noted.
The commissioner expressed optimism about the future of agriculture in Nasarawa State. “With the right policies, commitment, and collaboration, Nasarawa will become a leading agricultural state in Nigeria. Let us all work together to make this vision a reality,” he concluded.
