Nasarawa Assembly ‘anointed’ speaker loses supplementary poll

The immediate-past Commissioner for Works and Transport in Nasarawa State and All Progressives Congress ( APC ) House of Assembly candidate for Keffi East constituency, Mr Yahaya Wada Mohammed, has lost the supplementary election to the Social Democratic Party (SDP ) candidate, Mr Suleiman, Abdulaziz Danladi.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared election in four state constituencies in Nasarawa State House of Assembly inconclusive.

Mr Wada who was the anointed candidate of the stakeholders of APC in Nasarawa State for the speakership of the 6th Nasarawa State House of Assembly to be inaugurated in June was defeated by the candidate of the SDP.

The supplementary result for Keffi East constituency as announced by the Returning Officer, Dr Abdul rahman Baba who said the SDP candidate polled 7,527 votes to defeat Wada of the APC who garnered 7,506 votes.

In Karo Gitata state constituency , the returning officer declared PDP’s David Maiyaki winner with 16,361 votes against the APC incumbent Hashimu, Jibrin Gurku, who garnered 10,622 votes.

In Nasarawa Eggon East, APC incumbent member, Mohammed Agah Muluku defeated his closest rival, the candidate of APGA Kassimu Bakyano while the PDP House of Assembly candidate for Obi 2 state constituency, Luka, llya Zhekaba, was declared winner of the supplementary election.

Our correspondent reports that six Nasarawa state House of Assembly members including the incumbent Speaker Hon Balarabe Abdullahi are now returning to the Assembly while 18 new members were elected to the Assembly out of which Zenith Labour party (ZLP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) produce one member each.

The ruling APC produce 15 members while the opposition PDP has 6 elected members.
