Nasarawa: APC warns against disparaging governor

  • Vows to purge party of dissenters in effort to maintain unity, progress

From Abel Leonard, Lafia

The Nasarawa State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Otaru Douglas, issued a stern warning on Monday, emphasizing the importance of refraining from making derogatory remarks about the office of the Executive Governor, Engr Abdullahi A Sule.

The statement comes amidst growing tensions within the party, as some members continue to criticize the government’s policies and programs.

Douglas, in a statement sent to the Daily Sun, emphasized the need for party members to uphold the sanctity of the Governor’s office and refrain from actions that could undermine the cohesion of the APC.

“It is politically incorrect for any member of the party no matter how highly placed to continue to exhibit disdain and acts capable of denigrating the sanctity of the office of the Governor,” the statement read.

Furthermore, Douglas warned that the APC would take decisive action against individuals found to be working against the party’s interests. “At this critical period where the supremacy and cohesion of the party are non-negotiable, the party will not hesitate to purge itself of such misguided elements who are hiding under the glory of their former offices to cause strifes within the ranks of the party,” he declared.

The statement also reiterated the party’s commitment to reconciliation but made it clear that continued attacks on the government would not be tolerated. “We have since forgiven them of their misdeeds, but it is obvious they are yet to forgive themselves of their unholy activities,” Chief Douglas remarked.

Douglas urged party members to respect constituted authority, uphold party ideals, and work towards unity. He warned, “You are either with us or against us, ‘it is irrational for anyone to forbid eating a particular type of meat but yet, taking delight in licking its sauce’.”

“In this critical period, the APC cannot afford to tolerate any form of discord within its ranks. We urge all members to respect the office of the Executive Governor and work together for the progress of our state.”
