The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) has strongly condemned a violent attack on officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Area Command, during an anti-smuggling operation in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State.

This was conveyed in a Monday statement signed by National President of NAOSS, Aare Oluwafemi Ajayi, popularly known as
Fm Castro, and sent to Daily Sun.

Quoting news reports, the student body said armed suspects disrupted an operation targeting illicit drugs, endangering lives and undermining efforts to protect communities.

Ajayi described the operation embarked upon by the Customs officers as “lawful”, maintaining that reckless assault on security personnel is unacceptable and an affront to public safety and national development.

The statement reads, “NAOSS National, under the leadership of Aàrẹ Oluwafemi Ajayi (FM Castro), expresses deep sympathy with the injured officers and their families.

“We wish the affected personnel a speedy and full recovery, and we commend their courage and professionalism in the line of duty.”

Ajayi insisted that such criminality fuels insecurity, destroys futures, and threatens public health, especially among youths and students.

“We therefore issue a clear warning to drug traffickers and their collaborators: desist now or face the full weight of the law.

“We reaffirm the support of Ogun State students for the Nigeria Customs Service, particularly the Ogun I Area Command under the leadership of the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Olukayode Afeni.

“His consistent call for community partnership and vigilance reflects responsible leadership and a shared commitment to border security and public well-being,” the statement further reads.

Ajayi urged students, youths, traditional rulers, and community leaders to rise collectively against drug trafficking and all forms of smuggling.

He added that national development demands active citizenship, not retrogressive actions that sabotage their common future.

He called on the public to provide timely information, raise alarms when necessary, and cooperate fully with the Nigeria Customs Service as it discharges its statutory mandate.

“Recall that during our engagement with the Command, Deputy Comptroller Olukayode Afeni raised concerns about the alarming inflow of illicit drugs.

“NAOSS stands firm in amplifying this warning and mobilising students across Ogun State to be part of the solution,” he stated.

Ajayi reiterated NAOSS National’s solidarity with the NCS and the student body’s resolve to champion a safer, healthier, and more prosperous Ogun State.
