Dr. Kingsley Nwafor has emerged as the new Chairman of the Imo State chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association, (NMA), after a keenly contested election held on Sunday at the State Secretariat of the association in Owerri.
Nwafor polled 223 votes to defeat his challenger, Dr. Duru Okechukwu, who scored 92 votes.
In other results announced by the election committee, Dr. Chidi Njemanze was elected Financial Secretary with 183 votes, beating Dr. Chioma Abiazim who garnered 130 votes.
Dr. Precious Eteike also secured the position of Secretary after polling 188 votes to defeat Dr. Timothy Ogbuagu who scored 129 votes.
The election was conducted by a caretaker committee headed by Dr. Hyacinth Emele.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Nwafor vowed to uphold the dignity of the medical profession and promised an inclusive administration.
“I will uphold the dignity of the profession and, most importantly, carry my members along,” he said.
The new executives are expected to steer the affairs of the association in Imo State for the next term.
