National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has threatened to resume street protests across the country over the prolonged strike by university lecturers under the umbrella of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The newly elected NANS President, Umar Farouk, who addressed a press conference in Abuja, on Thursday, urged the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, and other stakeholders to take actions and steps that would herald an end to the protracted nationwide in seven days or the students would take to the streets with unfriendly actions.
He advised the Federal Government to set up Visitation Panels to address issues of all “politically” expelled and rusticated students in various tertiary institutions.
In addition to that, he suggested that all stakeholders in education sector should be engaged in ensuring education is given the desired attention by increment of budgetary allocation to Ministry of Education in order to meet up with UNESCO recommendation.
He renewed the commitment of NANS to the genuine emancipation of Nigerian students, soliciting their support and cooperation to ensure that the new executive of NANS achieve the desired goals within the shortest time.
He added: “We shall not waste time in ensuring that our agenda is focused on ensuring students returns back to school within the shortest possible period state of the nation.”
