The Sun Nigeria

Naked, exposed: And the powerful wail!

It wasn’t unexpected. It would certainly come this messy. Deeply messed up. The uproar is what was bound to happen. And it did. Falling into unpleasant places for them.

Our distinguished senators made it happen. They’re the men and women of calibre of this perilous time. Just as predicted and prophesied. No seer could have seen it better.

They wouldn’t hide it. They couldn’t “distinguishly” hold it. Even for a little moment longer. They burst into pandemonium of no small means. They vomited it as they deemed it fit. Their specie is rare and eerie.

Yes, uncommon! Now that they’re stripped. They are naked. They’re feeling the pinch on all fronts. The excruciating pain is awful. All over them. And they won’t keep quiet.

It’s the turn of senators to shout. And we’re enjoying every bit of this season.  What a momentum moment. Senators stood down the rubber-stamp role. It wasn’t a laughing matter. Neither was it laughable. No. None of them.

They were vividly shaking. Livid. Ostensibly afraid of their ugly shadows. Their shadows have been up till this day larger than their lives. The stark reality dawned on them. They have been living feigned lives. Heavily laced with deceit, falsehoods, falsity and pure fakery. Devoid of any iota of purity.

Imagine! Ordinary withdrawal of unauthorised orderlies threw them overboard. Completely confused, totally disoriented and utterly disconnected. Help, our senators are tensed up. Great pity!

Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP, Bauchi Central) that Wednesday, was bold enough to be so counted. He proudly jumped to the forefront. And led the onslaught. They were up in arms against withdrawal of their police orderlies. He threw up profusely:

“It should be done across the board. Let’s see what happens from the Office of the President, to the Vice President, to the Senate President, to the Speaker of the House, to the Ministers.”

He was pained to the marrow. He voiced his unrestrained anger: “After they have withdrawn my only orderly. I saw two convoys of ministers and they were carrying lots of security personnel.”

He hasn’t seen anything yet. He cried harder: “I have also seen Chinese and other business concerns, yesterday (Tuesday) with their compliments of orderlies.” Yet. His irritation didn’t end there:

“I have also seen daughters and sons of political office holders having orderlies and having security covers. I have seen singers having orderlies and complimentary protection.”

The senators actually launched their strange campaign on November 26, 2025.  That was when Senator Aliyu Wamakko (APC, Sokoto North), made matters worse. He exposed their self-centredness. And their internal wickedness shamelessly displayed. It’s all about them. No other human matters:

“Our lives are in danger. At a time when criminals are becoming more desperate and attacks are on the rise, withdrawing police protection from Senators and other VIPs exposes us to avoidable risks. This policy needs to be reviewed.”

Senator Tahir Monguno (APC, Borno North), couldn’t risk being left out. He strived to be heard loud and clear: “The withdrawal of security from VIPs will expose many of us to unnecessary danger.”

He cringed and trembled: “The security situation is deteriorating. Kidnappers and criminals are becoming more emboldened. Removing police protection now is like opening us up to attacks.”

See these cruel characters showcasing the bizarre stuff they are made off. These are the odd species “elected” to safeguard us. This certainly is not how to protect our interests. With this band of rulers. We don’t need enemies. Their enmity against us is strong.

The senators have comrades-at-arms in this their journey of absurd. They are in surplus supply. Prof. Wole Soyinka offered a sordid exemplar. It’s the height of rot in the highest place. The zenith of awkwardness in this spooky clime we tag a country.

Disgusting and detesting. It was delightful the Nobel Laureate came out alive again. And he demonstrated it succinctly with precision. No pretension. Nor did he mince, mix or miss words.

Every pronouncement that came out of his mouth spoke to their “sacred” throne. And addressed our pitiable plight. His description was a moving story. A tale of our precarious situation in these perilous times.

It was one of his best elements these times past. The Prof. served it hot. Ever evergreen. Love it. Eat it. Chew it. Swallow it. And drink it. You would be exceedingly glad you did. His exact words:

“Tinubu didn’t have to send the air force and the military to deal with this particular insurrection. This threat to our security and equilibrium. No. There are easier ways of doing it. Let me tell you where Tinubu should look for forces to quell that insurrection.

“Right here in Lagos. Or in Abuja, perhaps, I don’t know. But he didn’t need to call the military or the air force. I will tell you what happened.

“In one of my home visits, about two months ago. I was coming out of a hotel and I saw what looked like a film set. I said; ‘oh, they are shooting a film, on the grounds of this hotel.’

“A young man detached himself from the actors came over and greeted me. Very polite, very nice young man. And I said, ‘are you shooting somebody?’ I said, ‘I am just joking; are you shooting a film?’

He said no. I looked around, there was nearly a whole battalion occupying the ground of the hotel in Ikoyi (Lagos), right here. I got back to my car. I asked the driver, who that young man was? And he told me.

“I saw this swat team, a mixture. They were heavily armed, at least,15 or so heavily armed to the teeth security personnel; looked sufficient to take over a small country, neighbouring state like Benin (Republic).

“I think the next time, the President should just call and say, ‘Seyi, go and quell the rebellion over there.’ I was so astonished that I started looking for the National Security Adviser (NSA). I said, ‘track him down for me.

They got him somewhere in Paris. He was with the President he was at a meeting. I said, ‘I just saw something I can’t believe. I don’t understand.’ I described the scene to him.

“I said, ‘do you mean that a child of the Head of State goes around with an army for his protection, or whatever?’ I couldn’t believe it.

Later on, I did some investigative journalism. I found out, apparently, this is how this young man goes around with his battalion, heavily armed soldiers. Of course, the road was cleared before his car went out.

“So, next time there is an insurrection, the President should just call that young man and say; ‘Go and put down those stupid people there. You have enough troops at your command. Don’t bother me with all these security issues any longer.’

“Let’s not overdo things. This is not the first country that has a Head of State. It is not the first country whose Head of State has family. I think children should know their place. They are not Head of state. And the security architecture of a nation like this suffers some injuries when we see a heavy devotion of security to one young individual.”

With that “simple” honest and heartfelt observation. Soyinka must have offended some haughty beings. He would have caused huge rumpus in President Bola Tinubu’s camp. Perhaps, a “palpable disquiet” in the bloc. But the Presidency would put up false appearance. Vowing all is well.

They may even opt for the ridiculous. By blacklisting Soyinka in their heinous book of records. Whatever their option or choice. It bothers us not. We care less whose ox is gored. Or brutally bruised. We hold on to what Soyinka revealed to us. It’s a thriller of some ugly sort.

This wonder is not going away from us any time soon. It’s loud and lousy. Is the NSA meant to secure the whole country, or a personal security aide of the President? Is job ought to be largely strategizing. And that is somewhere far away from the public glare.

We don’t want to know how Nuhu Ribadu looks like. Or does not look like. We only want to feel the positive impact of his strategies. He does not need to be seen or heard all the time. That should be done sparingly. That role is assigned to his operatives.

That’s the standard practice the world over. Particularly in the USA. That’s where we assume to have “copied” our presidential system of government. But here, NSA’s convoy is even in hot chase with the President’s. Unhealthy rivalry.

Be warned. The hawks are coming after Soyinka. Sooner than later. For vengeance, of course. They will toil to impress their principal. And strive strenuously to put Soyinka in check. He must not go unruffled. He must be made to pay for his stinging, unfriendly guts.

Be firm, unshaken, unmoved. Don’t be carried away. Or cajoled. They may attempt to rubbish Soyinka. And walk his innocent narrative on its head. He didn’t mean what they are thinking. His is far deeper than their warped thought process.

So, after listening to Soyinka. You might want to sympathise with these disgruntled Senators. But, don’t dare it. It’s a no-go area. Don’t take their bullets for them. It’s worthless taking that expensive risk. They deserve that compassion not.

Leave the senators to carry their filthy crosses all alone. Lick their festering wound for however long it lasts. And ferry their burden to wherever they will not find rest. Neither the senators. Nor their comrades-at-arms deserve such prized empathy. They don’t merit it either.

All we need do is to show unqualified appreciation to Soyinka. I tell you the truth. This is the Soyinka we know. Forever standing to be counted where the trodden masses are involved. Always up and doing. He “faileth” not. The reason we admired his guts and audacity.

We pray fervently.  We continue to be eyewitnesses of this renewed Wole Soyinka. May you continue to grow in courage. Even as you age gracefully. May your ilk never face extinction.

Soyinka has genuinely played his part. And this is pivotal to Tinubu’s success or otherwise. He has more than done the needful. He made a good use of the appalling shenanigan he witnessed. Live and direct.

He exposed, expounded and ventilated our predicament. He rightly passed the buck to the President. And it stopped on his expansive table. It goes nowhere further.

Whatever the President decides to do with the buck thereafter. Will not only become history soon after. But also make or mar his ambitious journey to 2027. The choice is Tinubu’s.

And to the powerful, the senators, the politically exposed, et al. Now they’re naked, crying like babies. And desperately gasping for survival. But never are they innocent like babies. They are the exact opposite.

There should be no stopping their tears. Let their tears flow ceaselessly to the overflow. We’re enjoying every painful drop of their sobs. Pray! Let their cries go on. May they weep and wail even louder than ever before.

It’s our turn to rejoice. For the joy of the Lord is our strength.
