The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intercepted over 10 million doses of fake malaria medications worth approximately ₦3 billion after raiding a Trade Fair Market in Lagos.

NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Dr. Martins Iluyomade, stated that the agency acted on credible intelligence received on February 3.

During a press briefing at NAFDAC’s Apapa office, Iluyomade revealed that eight truckloads of contraband products were removed from the premises, and four individuals were arrested in connection with the operation.

According to him, the seized items included anti-malarial drugs, cerebral malaria injections, antibiotics, Postinor contraceptives, and Analgin products — many of which have been banned in Nigeria for nearly 15 years.

Officials described the discovery as one of the most significant seizures in recent memory, warning that the illicit products could have endangered millions of lives if they had entered the market.

“NAFDAC remains committed to safeguarding public health under the leadership of Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, and we will not relent in our fight against substandard and falsified products,” Iluyomade said.
