The Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Auwalu Danladi Sankara, has returned N301 million to the state treasury — funds that were left over from the Ramadan feeding programme executed by his ministry.
The feeding initiative, which supported thousands of residents during the holy month, was concluded successfully. After a thorough audit of expenditures, a surplus of over N301 million was discovered. In a move that has drawn commendation from various quarters, Sankara promptly returned the unused funds.
During the handover ceremony in Dutse, Sankara said the money was returned because it belongs to the people. “We ensured every naira was spent judiciously, and after the programme, the balance of N301 million remained. It is only right that it goes back to the treasury where it can be used for other needs,” he said.
The Secretary to the State Government, who received the funds, praised Sankara’s action and described it as an example of responsible leadership. He also reiterated the Namadi administration’s commitment to fiscal discipline and transparency.
Sankara’s gesture has sparked positive reactions from residents, advocacy groups, and political analysts alike. Many see it as a rare but much-needed example of integrity in public service — one that could inspire similar conduct among other officeholders.
In a political environment often plagued by financial misconduct, the commissioner’s refund stands out as a beacon of honesty and accountability. For many in Jigawa State, it’s a moment that reflects not just fiscal prudence, but a genuine commitment to public service and trust.
