Mothering Sunday: Rape, kidnapping threatening motherhood -Osinbajo

WIFE of the Vice President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, has raised the alarm that “Nige­rian women are on the verge of extinction following reports of various abuses of women and girls in the country.”
Mrs. Osinbajo said this during the celebration of this year’s Mothering Sun­day at the Aso Villa Chapel, in Abuja.
She lamented that wom­en and girls were no longer safe in the country as they they were being sexually abused, abducted and killed.
“The girls are under threat,” she said.
Mrs. Osinbajo urged par­ents to always charge their children, especially the girl child to maintain the right virtues, asking: “What do you teach them because they cannot give what they don’t have? The mothers of tomorrow cannot be moth­ers if they don’t have what it takes.”
Mrs Osinbajo, howev­er, saluted the strength of mothers.
“I thank God for what mothers do; they take care of the child, train the child, etc.
“I thank God for the joy mothers bring. I pray more grace, more wisdom and more strength for all moth­ers,” she said.
Also, in her sermon, wife of the Senior Pastor of Du­namis International Church, Mrs Becky Enenche said a mother is one of the greatest gift to humanity.
“She is an asset,” she said, and urged mothers to ensure that they guide their children, “pray for them all the time, receive direc­tion from God concerning them, know them, teach them family values and be involved in their develop­mental stage.”
Mrs. Enenche, who charged mothers not to fa­vour one child against an­other, said “all these make one a great woman.”
She called on the chil­dren to obey their parents, honour and fear them at all times.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Chaplain of Aso Villa Church, Pastor Seyi Malomo, were among those at the service.
