At the just-ended Africa Celebrates 2025 in Addis Ababa, Nigerian Afrobeats singer Temidola Awosika, popularly known as Modola, brought together artistry and diplomacy.

The singer-performer made history as the first Nigerian Afrobeats artist to perform at the annual Pan-African celebration, delivering vibrant renditions of her singles “Talk” and “No Stress.”

During her time in Ethiopia, Modola met with Catherine Afeku, Ghanaian Minister of State at the Office of the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, accompanied by Colonel Ramon Ribas de Reyna, Defence Advisor at the Embassy of Spain and Ambassador to Nigeria in Ethiopia, and Ambassador Dine Bouraima.

“I am completely impressed with Modola as an artist; I believe the future for her is endless in terms of what she can achieve. I was a fan of her songs even before I met her today. What really stands out for me is how she performed the song today. I am glad I got to see her perform live today.”

“Being in Ethiopia feels like finding a home away from home,” Modola shared. “There’s a sense of peace here — a place where you can slow down, recharge, and just be. I think that energy will only grow stronger as more [Africans] come together and embrace that unity.”

Her performance and diplomatic encounters in Addis Ababa are a signal of the growing intersection of African music and soft power, and Modola’s expanding influence as one of the continent’s most promising new voices.
