Ministry team up with EU on digital single market

Minister of Communications, Mr. Adebayo Shittu, has said that the ministry is collaborating with the European Union Commission to create a digital single market in Nigeria.
He told Daily Sun that the size of Nigeria made it the most lucrative investment destination in the Sub-Sahara Africa with a high return on investment and an emerging market that made it the frontiers of investment and digital market consideration.
He said the ministry expanded the 1-govt.net platform, which consolidated existing government ICT infrastructure into a common platform.
He explained that 1-gov.net enabled ministries, departments and agencies to exchange data in a seamless manner while allowing each other remain independent and maintain its privacy and the security of its operatives.
“Efforts are on to expand the number of data centers while government is about to commission its tier three certified data center, the highest certification for any data centre in Abuja,” he said.
He disclosed that using the 1-gov.net platform saved 30 percent worth information technology, systems applications and development in Nigeria.
Shittu said: “The environment for greater achievements has been created, there is greater access to ICT while Nigerians are today better able to use ICT thus integrating them into the global economy benefits,” he maintained.
