The Ministry of Steel Development has officially launched its Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) and gone live on the 1-Gov Platform.

This transformative initiative is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, improving data management, and fostering transparency within the ministry’s operations.

Speaking at the launch, the  Minister of Steel Development, Prince Abubakar Audu, expressed optimism that the ECMS—designed to streamline the management of documents and information across various departments, will enable the ministry to digitize records, automate workflows, and provide secure access to vital information.

He noted that this will reduce reliance on paper-based processes and enhance collaboration among staff.

Audu emphasized the significance of the launch, noting that the introduction of the ECMS marks a pivotal moment for the ministry.

He added that the initiative is not just about technology, but about fostering a culture of efficiency and accountability, empowering the workforce, and improving service delivery—factors that will ultimately contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s steel industry.

In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Chris Osa Isokpunwu, stated that the launch signifies the ministry’s formal entry into a new era of integrated digital governance, being championed by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF).

He explained that the “One-Gov” initiative is a landmark reform designed to ensure that government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) operate as one connected system, enabling better data sharing, transparency, and efficient service delivery.

According to Dr. Isokpunwu, “the transition is more than a technological shift, it is an opportunity to modernise our internal processes, strengthen coordination, and improve how we deliver on our mandate to revitalize the steel sector.”

The permanent secretary urged all staff to embrace the change with enthusiasm, adaptability, and a commitment to excellence.

He commended the minister for providing the strategic direction and support that made the launch possible, and appreciated the ICT team and all staff of the ministry for their dedication and commitment in achieving this milestone.

Earlier, the representative of Galaxy Backbone, Mr. Wumi, in his presentation, noted that by launching the Enterprise Content Management System and going live on the 1-Gov Platform, the ministry  has fully automated its Standard Operating Procedures—transitioning from “paper to less paper and paperless.”
