From Olanrewaju Lawal, Birnin Kebbi
The Kebbi State government has said that the administration of Governor Nasir Idris is up to date on the payment of the new minimum wage and other emoluments, including gratuity, pension, and death benefits, to civil servants.
The Head of Service, TPL Malami Shekare, stated this during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi, in his office alongside the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Murtala Usman.
Shekare recalled that the Kebbi State government under the incumbent leadership of Comrade Nasir Idris was the vanguard in the payment of the new minimum wage of N75,000, above what the Federal Government approved of N75,000.
According to him, “Before the implementation of the new wage, the government sat down with the Nigerian Labour Congress to arrive at the present figure of N75,000 recommended by the Congress and accepted by the administration.”
“Since then, the government has been paying the new wage unfailingly, in consolidated salary, embedding leave grant, to this day.”
“The government does not owe any worker salary, pension, gratuity or death benefits.”

“On promotion, it’s not automatic to be promoted; workers have to undergo a certain process; in other states, civil servants have to write an examination, but this is not the case in Kebbi,” Shekare said.
The Head of Service warned that the state government would take legal action against the author of the false declaration because the report contained falsehoods motivated by ill will and ulterior motives.
In his reaction, the Kebbi Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Murtala Usman, described the writer of the report as an impostor who does not belong to any union, public or private, or affiliate.
He said, “We asked him what union he belongs to and he said none; as workers, we employ an appropriate channel for complaints and agitations to the government through our various unions.”
“However, the person involved posted three letters on social media to the Commissioner for Finance, the NLC and general workers.
“He’s trying to create an industrial unrest in Kebbi, which we shall not allow to happen. The government has been paying workers with the new minimum wage, including a leave grant which is embedded in the consolidated salary,” the NLC Chairman remarked.
