Youth groups and constituents from Osun East Senatorial District, staged a peaceful protest yesterday to initiate the recall process for Senator Francis Fadahunsi over allegations of inciting violence during the August governorship election.
Carrying placards and banners, the protesters gathered at Enuwa Roundabout in Ilesa before marching through Isokun and Market Square, ultimately ending their procession at the Owa-Obokun Palace gate.
Addressing journalists on behalf of the demonstrators, Comrade Olorunfemi Olatunji stated that the protest was prompted by Senator Fadahunsi’s poor representation and inflammatory comments made during the 2026 electioneering campaign.
Speaking for the coalition of youth and students alongside concerned citizens of Osun East Senatorial District, Olatunji condemned the lawmaker’s remarks.
“We strongly oppose the reckless statement made by our senator before the election. This protest is only the first stage of our action to recall him. We have compiled all necessary legal documents to launch the formal recall process in a few days, and we will take this movement to Abuja,” Olatunji said.
Concurrently, the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Akinbode Olakolupo, demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the lawmaker.
“We demand a transparent, impartial, and credible investigation into all allegations of incitement, threats, killings, and political violence linked to Senator Fadahunsi.
“We also urge security agencies to intensify efforts to recover illegal firearms from political thugs and criminals,” Olakolupo said.
The allegations stem from a recent demonstration led by Fadahunsi, an All Progressives Congress (APC) senator, protesting the killing of party supporters during the election, during which he was accused of inciting violence.
Fadahunsi has denied the allegations, maintaining that the video evidence circulated by the ruling party was doctored.
Following the allegations, he was questioned at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Osun State Police Command in Osogbo and subsequently released on bail.
